Recruiting Now: New Trustees
St Barnabas Counselling Centre (known affectionately by many as ‘St Bs’) is a successful and well-established charity supporting Norwich and Norfolk’ residents and communities with their emotional and mental health.
We are a low-cost counselling service accredited by the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists with a proud history of over 50 years and are currently recruiting a new Trustee to help sustain our meaningful work.
Every year people from all walks of life benefit from sessions with our 30 volunteer counsellors. We deliver approximately 3500 sessions and see over 300 clients annually. Individuals come to us for support with a wide variety of issues ranging from anxiety & depression, relationship difficulties, domestic abuse, grief and loss.
In additional to low-cost counselling in the community, we also deliver support to migrants and survivors of persecution and exile through our Asylum Seeker, Refugee and Migrant Counselling Service and offer Employee Assistance Programs to multiple businesses and charities to support their employees.
Trustees ensure the Centre is managed responsibly and that resources are directed where they will do most good. Trustees must be aware of the “broader picture”; how the Centre might develop and how it might react to changes within society and within the therapeutic world.
Our Trustees are drawn from a variety of backgrounds including finance, business and education. We would welcome expressions of interest from anyone whose life experience has given them some wisdom and relevant skills. You should enjoy working as part of a team, be available for evening meetings once every two months and be in sympathy with the aims and the ethos at St Bs.
For an informal chat with our Director, please contact Melpo Economou: director@stbcc.org.uk
Please note: we are particularly interested in a member joining the board with legal expertise. But please, do not hesitate to contact us if you come from another discipline.
‘I arrived at St B’s as a Norwich Centre diploma trainee in April 2019, and my time here has been a very valuable experience, rich in learning; different modalities of counselling, the ways in which we all work in our own ways with our clients, and the power of community.’
